Efficient wastewater treatment at Käppala, Stockholm
Käppalaverket is one of the world’s most efficient wastewater treatment plants, treating wastewater from more than 500,000 people in Stockholm. Biogas is extracted from the sludge that remains after the purification process, and used as vehicle fuel for public buses in Stockholm.
Underground waste management
Thanks to a stationary pneumatic refuse collection system, the garbage doesn’t need to be collected by trucks anymore. Instead, the garbage is transported by air through pipes, where it is compacted in sealed containers. Using a vacuum system instead of an old-fashioned refuse room or waste container does away with problems with unpleasant odours, and nobody needs to come into contact with waste bags or containers.
Sjöstadsverket – unique R&D facility for wastewater treatment technologies
Hammarby Sjöstadsverk is Sweden’s leading and internationally known R&D facility in water purification technology. Different mobile devices and purification steps can be connected to the various water treatment lines to compare and develop future technologies.
