Reselo is a spin-off from KTH Royal Institute of Tecnology in Stockholm, built around a patented technology that turns birch bark into fossil-free rubber. Our biorefining process transforms a renewable raw material that’s otherwise mostly burned as fuel into a 100 % bio-based and high performing elastomer, Reselo Rubber, that is compatible with existing technologies for rubber product manufacturing. By working closely with customers and partners we are implementing Reselo Rubber across industries including footwear, automotive components and tires.
As the world seeks circular and renewable alternatives to fossil-based rubber, Reselo Rubber offers a breakthrough solution derived from birch bark — an abundant forestry side-stream that is today burned as fuel. Their patented birch bark biorefining process transforms this renewable raw material into a 100 % bio-based elastomer with a longer life cycle that is compatible with existing technologies for rubber product manufacturing.
Born out of research at the Wallenberg Wood Science Center at KTH, Reselo is driven by a vision to build a future where high-performance materials made from renewable sources allow the creation of better products. Reselo Rubber tackles one of the rubber sector’s greatest challenges — dependency on fossil resources associated with high carbon emissions — while unlocking performance improvements for a wide range of applications. The team has managed to demonstrate scalability and commercial feasibility of their production process and received overwhelming interest from customers.
The first shoes with Reselo Rubber outsoles are already on the market and the company is rapidly expanding within this segment. Simultaneously, a concept tire has been launched together with Nokian Tires and multiple creative applications are currently being explored. The Swedish patent office has found no competing commercial technology and the patent is approved and active at PRV (Swedish patent office).
By choosing Reselo Rubber, brands and manufacturers can increase performance and significantly lower their products carbon footprint, thus contributing to a more sustainable and circular rubber economy. We enable positive impact through material innovation, close collaboration and strong partnerships. Reach out today – let’s build something sustainable together!
