Reselo AB

Reselo is built on a patented technology and a spin-off from KTH Royal Institute of Tecnology in Stockholm. The solution addresses the dependence on materials from fossil resources and valorization of biomass. The first product in the portfolio is called Reselo Rubber and is a biobased alternative to current rubber materials. The production is currently outsourced with a ton capacity, while scaling up and building own facilities, to meet customer demand from various markets (footwear, automotive, industrial and tires). Reselo is looking to build strong partnerships for a green transition.

Reselo started as a research project at the Wallenberg Wood Science Center(WWSC) at KTH and was made into the company Reselo in 2020.

Reselo has developed a process to convert birch bark into a novel, elastomeric biomaterial named Reselo Rubber. Birch bark is a great feedstock for the production of new materials at industrial scale because:

– it is an abundant residue of the global pulp, paper and plywood industry, making it an easily accessible resource
– birch bark can be obtained to a large extent from sustainably managed forests
– it contains several compounds that can be used for different applications, like betulin for coatings, thus making birch bark commercially attractive

In March 2021, Reselo received their first funding from Vinnova which was followed by being recognised on the IVA’s 100 list and winning the Venture Cup start-up competition as well as joining the Sting Incubate Deeptech program in the same year. So far, the team had managed to demonstrate scalability and commercial feasibility of their production process and received overwhelming interest from customers. In addition, their patent application was evaluated positively by the Swedish patent office which found no competing commercial technology. The patent is approved and active at PRV (Swedish patent office).

In 2022, Reselo sold its first kg of our bioelastomer, named Reselo Rubber demonstrating customer demand and generating first revenue. In collaboration with IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, Reselo could show that our Reselo Rubber has a much lower carbon footprint than commonly used fossil-based rubbers thus allowing us to quantify the positive impact of our technology. In the same year, Reselo was also able to secure funding from the Swedish Energy Agency to support process development and scale-up activities. To strengthen their network within the forestry industry and advance building their business, Reselo joined the BizMaker Forest Accelerator program.

Now, Reselo is working hard to implement our material into customer products and the company is looking for investors that want to be part of this sustainable rubber revolution. A pilot facility produces volumes and is being ramped up.
