Advanced scenariobased testing of safety critical functions, wireless communication systems and Internet of Things.
Vehicles are becoming increasingly complex and are now equipped with radar, cameras and other sensors. These sensors, as well as wireless communication between vehicles and infrastructure, are important components for advanced functions, such as autonomous driving.
Awitar designed to meet the technologies and requirements of the future
Systems must be safe in use and not interfere with other electronics. Awitar, the Automotive Wireless Test and Research Facility, is designed to meet the challenges of future technologies and future requirements. The idea is that it should be a facility where electronics can be tested to ensure that they do not cause interference to other devices around them and that they in turn are not subject to such interference.
Repeatable and controllable electromagnetic environment
Here vehicles can be tested in electromagnetic environments that can be controlled and repeatable. An important part of the facility is the instrumentation for e.g. generating high field strengths, simulating complex wireless signals and creating a realistic environment for multi-sensor systems with radar, cameras etc.
Massive heavy vehicles, machinery and equipment can be tested
The design and technology aspects have been developed in close cooperation with the Swedish automotive industry. The facility is designed to be able to handle cars, trucks and buses as well as heavy construction machinery and other massive heavy equipment.
A resource for verification, testing, research and development
Here you will find a unique resource for verification and testing, as well as research and development. The shielded chamber offers the option of setting up advanced scenarios for testing complete multi-sensor systems.
Simulation of complex signal environments provides the basis for developing expertise in the field
Extensive research is currently being undertaken in wireless vehicle communication. In Awitar it will be possible to simulate complex signal environments for testing wireless systems, such as mobile phones and vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Repeatable and controllable testing and development in Awitar will contribute to the growth of new expertise within the field.
Room for several vehicles and customer personnel
There will be a workshop area outside the shielded chamber with a lift for cars if modifications will be done. The control room has plenty of space for the customer to establish a workplace with surveillance equipment etc. Above the control room and in immediate connection to the chamber the customers have access to office space, conference room and dressing room.
EMC resources
Awitar is the seventh EMC test chamber at RISE. In addition to the new chamber the facility is completed by the present vehicle test chamber plus smaller chambers (including semi-anechoic, fully anechoic and reverberation chambers) for other types of test objects.
