Returpack is responsible for the Swedish deposit systems for metal cans and recyclable PET bottles for ready to drink beverages. Each year about 2 billion containers are returned to the company which are recycled to materials. A circular system for resource efficiency!
The nationwide deposit system for metal cans and PET bottles was established in 1984 by Returpack. The concept is that consumers pay a small fee when acquiring a metal can or a PET bottle with drink beverage, a fee that the consumers will get back when they return their containers in one of Retrurpack’s return machines. The machines can be found in many supermarkets, sports clubs, cafés etc. About 85 % of all the sold containers for drink beverages in Sweden are recycled and returned to the Returpack recycle plant in Norrköping where they are processed to become new materials and products.
