Eko-Service Skandinavien AB collects CFCs from old refridgerators and heat pumps and recovers it in a way that is safe for the environment.
CFCs have a major impact on the ozone layer. Therefore, it is of uttermost importance that as much as possible of the CFCs are recovered and destroyed. Eko-Service is utilising the best available technique for recovering CFC´s from old refrigerators and freezers as well as from insulation materials.
The business started in 1992 and has been increasing every year. Today some 120 000 units are treated in Lövsta. It will expand to about 200 000 units in the coming years.
So far the cost has been paid by the municipalities but that will be changed in August 2005 when the producer’s responsibility is implemented. The process contains two steps:
1. Degassing of the cooling circuit and
2. Final processing including recovering of CFC 11 from the insulation foam.
The efficiency exceeds 90%.
