H22 – The making of A Smarter City

The Helsingborg international city expo in 2022, and the work leading up to it, is a major investment aiming to explore and lead the way to a smarter and more sustainable urban planning and city life. Our goal is to be one of Europe’s most innovative cities in 2022. Welcome to join our journey!

Background and current state
By 2030, 60 percent of the world’s population will live in cities. At the same time, alarming facts about that the number of people with mental illness is increasing and climate change are demanding society’s attention and action. These are all important issues proven and exposed by Agenda 2030, the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals. For the city of Helsingborg and H22 in particular, SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and SDG 17 (partnership for the goals) are of extra importance.

It is clear that we have to change the way we develop our cities and we need to be braver than ever before, daring to invest in new paths going forward. We need to find smarter solutions and better ways to build cities where both the people and planet can thrive. H22 – A smarter city is the City of Helsingborg’s investment in doing just that.

Partnership and cooperation towards 2022
The years leading up to H22 will be characterized by determined work from local, national and international actors, both in and outside of Helsingborg. Because the companies and organizations that lead their industries forward also shape our lives in the city.

The city expo H22 – A smarter city
During the city expo in 2022 only the best is good enough. The most exciting development work, the sharpest questions, the best formats, ideas and solutions will be showcased and further processed by the crowd and decision makers visiting H22.

In the years leading up to H22 and during the city expo itself there are great opportunities to use Helsingborg as a testbed. A place and a platform to initiate and try new cooperation’s, ideas and conversations. All the things creating the city expo H22.

To focus of H22s deliberately broad theme that is a smarter and more sustainable welfare and urban development, H22 adopts three different perspectives:
• Improving the quality of life – Highlighting life in the city and life in between houses
• Innovative welfare- and urban planning – The innovations, tech and ideas pushing development forward
• Reinventing city governance – The leadership and decision-making in a successful urban planning
