For all cities interested in applying to the Climate Smart Cities Challenge, there are several tools that might help in the application process. Watch the first webinar that explains the expectations around making an application or join our next webinar on the 12th of January.

About the open call

We are looking for cities to partner with us to run a challenge, host a real-world testbed, and invite problem-solvers to compete to develop and scale potential solutions to their greenhouse gas challenges and create other social benefits.

The Climate Smart Cities Challenge is an opportunity for cities to participate as implementation partners in a city-based open innovation competition that will invite a global pool of technologists, businesses and investors to develop, test and scale cutting-edge solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create a better future for all. Find more information about the challenge here.

Help in the application process

To write a good application, there are several tools to help you. In two blog posts, Nesta Challenges explain what criteria they are looking at.

Another opportunity for cities that are looking to apply is to join the virtual workshop on the 12th of January at 9 GMT (10 CET). This second virtual workshop is another opportunity for any cities (organisations in partnership with cities are also welcome) to hear from the partners behind the challenge about what they are looking for in applications and participate in a discussion to help answer questions from prospective applicants before applications close on the 22nd of January 2021. This event will be a follow on from Applying to the open call (Part 1). This session will be recorded and posted online as well.

This challenge is an initiative of Teknikföretagen, Viable Cities, UN-Habitat, Smart City Sweden, Vinnova, and the Swedish Energy Agency, delivered by Nesta Challenges.
